Save Money by Saving Gas!
By Vanessa Carroll
Let me pose a “what if” scenario that would save you money this year if you only changed one thing in your life.
What if you switched from a vehicle that gets 20 miles to the gallon to a vehicle that gets 28 miles per gallon?
If you made this one change, you would be saving five gallons of gas a week based on driving 350 miles per week. If gas prices are averaging $3.50 per gallon, your savings in dollars would be $17.50 per week, which is $70.00 per month, bringing us to a grand total of $910.00 in a year.
If you throw in weekend getaways and other trips, you’ll be saving well over $1000 every year by switching vehicles.
On top of the $1000 in yearly savings, you can most-likely lower your monthly car payment with the purchase of an economy car. By cashing in that expensive SUV or sedan and trading it for a sporty, fuel-efficient, less expensive car, you could save as much as $50 a month. So, not only would you be saving $1000 in gas each year, tack on another $600 in yearly savings from a lower car payment.
What could an extra $1600 get you? A nicer vacation? A nicer wardrobe? Pay down credit cards? Groceries?
With all of these possibilities, if you ask me, this is a “what if” that could be a great reality!
